Sonographic notations aim to reveal a sonic reality that emerges with the attention paid to them. Using a visual and analytical approach to bring about perceptive acuity, they attempt to develop a multi-sensory approach to spaces.
Each notation identifies and analyzes a sound object (the smallest particle of an acoustic ensemble) in a given space. It is possible to reference each of these objects, leading to the deployment of as many notations as there are sound objects, or to function as “highlights” of singular elements of an acoustic landscape. A period of analytical listening to the place “silent” is necessary beforehand.
This piece, which deconstructs the acoustics of these spaces, is therefore very fragile. The objects are likely to blend into the various sources of sound pollution that may emanate from visitors or the surrounding environment, until they become unidentifiable. To reveal their full potential, these notations require a space conducive to listening, where the lightest of sound objects can have a chance of being perceived.
